Campaign for Real Ale

Parish Wardens

To all Camra Salford Branch Members

Introduction of Salford Branch Parish Wardens

Aim

To improve participation and engagement of the main body of Camra members, and to raise and improve the profile of Camra within the Branch area.

Proposal

To split the Branch into six geographical areas, called Parishes.

The six Parishes being; Cadishead & Irlam (with 9 pubs & clubs selling real ale), Eccles, Peel Green, Winton & Monton (20), Worsley, Boothstown, Walkden & Lt Hulton (19) Swinton & Pendlebury (22) Salford Quays & Weaste (8) Crescent, Chapel St & Higher Broughton (14)

Each Parish will then have a number of designated Parish Wardens. The number of wardens will depend on the number of pubs & clubs in each Parish. Each warden will then be given a number of designated pubs & clubs (by mutual agreement) within their ward. It is intended that all wardens will live within their allotted parish, however it is understood this may not always be possible.

The basic formula being; <10 = 1 warden ≥10 & <20 = 2 wardens ≥20 = 3 wardens

This means that a minimum of about 12 wardens are required for the whole Branch area.

Role/Responsibilities of the Parish Warden

Visit allocated Real Ale Pubs at least twice per quarter Visit allocated Real Ale Clubs at least once per quarter Agree strategy with Branch committee of visiting non- Real Ale pubs & clubs Be known to the landlord/lady or Steward/ess in allocated pubs & clubs Promote Camra within Parish Maintain Camra notice board & membership stand in relevant pubs Report to Branch Meeting significant developments and/or events (Bi-monthly as a minimum, which can be done in the form of an email if necessary) Host Branch Crawls within Ward (e.g. give pubs advance notice of Crawl and/or recommend to Branch a proposed Crawl) Try to negotiate Carma Discount scheme in pubs (never any harm in asking) Assist in updating information on each pub & club in Whatpub

It is most important to remember that the role of a Parish Warden is Not Confrontational or Inquisitorial, it is to promote Camra, show and give or seek support to Pubs & Clubs and seek relevant information for the Branch.
